For those that don't know, the name 'Enterprise' was chosen because of a massive mailing from various Star Trek fans who wanted a piece of history to be linked with the 'real world' of space exploration. The retirement of the Enterprise had nothing to do with wing damage... it never re-entered the atmosphere and never suffered the effects of ablation. Enterprise was also used for 'mating' tests to the external tank, if I'm not mistaken.
