Can anyone refer me to a good book or two on basic sound and music synthesis,
with emphasis on stereo or 3D placement (three or four speaker) techniques? 

Are there repositories on the net of sound descriptions?
That is, tuples of attack, decay, etc. for trumpets, clarinets, 
drum sounds, and pianos crashing from 10-story windows?
