My thanks for the prompt replies that I received. My immediate problem
was not using the RAM parameter which on second reading was the right
choice. I now have about 540K free (as opposed to the 440K I started
with). I only placed the PCNFS.SYS in HIMEM as suggested and not
SOCKDRV.SYS and the ETH501.SYS (others you get errors). 
   And to Geoff, there are those of us who appreciate whatever support
you have given and hope you keep on keeping on. However, I do remember 
the new features of 3.0.1 being "leaked" fairly early by someone. I
would hope that you could post Sun's press release on the new features 
when it receives the blessing for public release. I look forward to
the next release whenever it is and my thanks again.

I am still waiting for my Mac NFS and will post my impressions after
working with it. I see there is a second Mac-NFS on the market as well
