Summary: the roms are out, but not free?? Message-ID: <13579@june.cs.washington.edu> Date: 30 Oct 90 21:12:08 GMT Reply-To: dylan@june.cs.washington.edu (Dylan McNamee) Distribution: usa Organization: University of Washington, Computer Science, Seattle Lines: 27 I have recently added a second drive to my 2091 system. I carefully followed all the advice given here about making sure the drives were marked as not supporting reselection, to work around a bug that would be fixed "in a free ROM upgrade." I managed to crash my machine by dowloading to disk as I was compiling on the other drive. It appears the reselection workaround didn't work. So I called my dealer, who informed me that the 2091 roms have been around for quite a while, but that it isn't being treated as a warranty repair, and the cost would be around $60. Hmmm. Has ANYONE out there recieved this ROM upgrade? Did it work wonders for disk performance? (Reselection is KEY to decent HD performance with multiple drives) How much did it cost? Does anyone from CBM care to comment? (My machine is March vintage 2500/30...) How could they get away with charging for this thing while it's under warranty? thanks, and sorry for whining... dylan -- dylan mcnamee "...I put the Mu in Mother Goose, dylan@cs.washington.edu the Doc in Doctor Seuss..."
