The problem with all of the 'slice processors is the extra cycles necessary to do memory ops. And the '030 can be obtained with a faster clock than the 29K. I once scrubbed a hardware managers pet project using the 29116 by showing that an '020 would meet the performance requirements, and be significantly cheaper.
