If a chip is soldered in a circuit card and you want to remove it to install
another chip, it is best to cut the pins on the old part very near the body of
the chip.  Then unsolder each pin one at a time (this will reduce the risk of
damage to the card).  Install a chip socket in place of the chip and plug the
new chip in the socket.
