Message-ID: <121238@tiger.oxy.edu> Date: 31 Oct 90 08:26:35 GMT Organization: Occidental College, Los Angeles, CA 90041 Lines: 31 Hi again, guys. I'm back again, and I have another problem to solve. This one involves an error on my fourth partition of my 100 meg HD. It is a 12 meg partition, and I have crashed both the finder and Prosel-16 trying to copy a file from another partition to the fourth partition. The error message that GS/OS gives right before it crashes is: 'System Error. Cannot complete operation. #804B'. From Prosel, it just goes 'boing' and doesn't have any message. I would try Copy II Plus, but I'm afraid of what it could do to my HD, so I'm staying clear of it. I have verified the partition (from both the finder and Prosel-16) and all blocks appear to be well. I can read files from the partition, and can write some files, but it seems like very large files (400k+) get yakked on, since GS/OS tries to start it in the longest contiguous segment of free space (or something like that, I believe). Anyway, I have the distinct feeling that I have a couple bad blocks, despite the verdicts of GS/OS and Prosel. Has anyone had similar problems, or can tell me what error #804B means in GS/OS-speak? More importantly, does anyone have a solution? This is quite scary, considering that I haven't made a backup since mid-September... My setup is: Apple IIGS Rom 01, 1.25meg Apple Expansion RAM, TWGS 7.0Mhz, Apple DMA SCSI, POWERDrive 100meg HD, 1 3.5 and 1 unused 5.25. Please help. Thanks in advance, Dale LaFountain Struggling CS Major and (currently) confused GS user prophet@oxy.edu
