The control key is to a traditional OS as the option and command keys are to the Mac. Are you suggesting that they should be banished as well? Control characters have the advantage that they are are supported by an international standard (ISO whatever). If the Mac is expected to connect to other systems it should have some way of generating the data that they expect. -David
