Raymond W. Arritt at the University of Kansas quickly suggested the answer: remove the print banner, which is confusing the postscript printer. Here is a full procedure for adding a Postscript printer to a PI. - use the System Manager tool's Print Manager to add a new printer, - edit the file /usr/spool/lp/interface/printer_name, changing one line, which appears about 30 lines from the top of the file, to: BANNER=0 Also, multiple print queues can be assigned to a single physical printer port simultaneously, using the System V 'lp' spooler system. (We found it convenient to set up separate Postscript and normal (text and HP-GL) print queues, enabling only one or the other depending upon whether or not the HP Postscript cartridge is plugged into the Laserjet III.)
