Keywords: unix 386 low-cost Message-ID: <1990Oct30.010156.19192@ux1.cso.uiuc.edu> Date: 30 Oct 90 01:01:56 GMT Sender: news@ux1.cso.uiuc.edu (News) Organization: University of Illinois at Urbana Lines: 18 I have a 386 AT compatable machine with 2 MB memory and an st-506 (currently a too small 44 MB) hard disk. I am interested in running UNIX on this machine. Being a student, I don't have too much money, so I'm looking for a low-cost solution. I need to be able to run Gnu Emacs and TeX without too much hassle. I also need peaceful co-existance with DOS. I don't need to try to run DOS programs under UNIX, just read/write a dos partition and choose either system at boot time (the second of which I gather is easy). Can anyone offer suggestions or share their experiences? Reply by mail and I will summerize. -- Michael Pereckas * InterNet: m-pereckas@uiuc.edu * just another student...
