Since I've gotten several letters about it now, I'll simply make my
statement in public:

I apologize if anyone thought I provided too much detail in my
explanation of why the Desktop checking occurs when Norton Utilities
recreates the Desktop file. I didn't think I supplied any information
which anyone with a copy of Inside Macintosh and a little thinking
could not obtain on their own. I will try to be more circumspect about
such matters in the future.  However, I will try to be more
circumspect in the future.  (What a downer - first thing Monday
morning...)
