There were Japanese-American battleship duels off Guadalcanal and at the Suriagao Straight. - Bill ] The battle of Suriagao Strait was a no-contest, though. The Japanese fleet coming up the strait was not the best the Japanese had to offer plus, given the geography, they were almost on a suicidal mission. In fact, it was one of the few times in history that the classic "T" was crossed, where the entire broadside of the American battleship line was brought to bear on an advancing Japanese fleet. The disastrous results for the Japanese would have been worse if the American ships hadn't been low on armor piercing rounds. -- Sao Khai Mong: Applied Dynamics, 3800 Stone School Road, Ann Arbor, Mi48108 (313)973-1300 (uunet|sharkey)!amara!khai khai@adi.com
