For at least one group of Artillery Liason (Cubs -- Maytag Messershmidts) pilots, the preferred personal weapon was the WWI "trench gun". That turns out to be a sawed off 12 guage pump shotgun. Procurement was a bit "informal", but all of us "legs" knew that if you could come up with this weapon, you got "free" flights anywhere you wanted to go. D Squared
