If you want to stay on the mainframe, CA-Datacom/DB has a facility
(CA-Datacom/VSAM Transparency) that does exactly what you want.  It
allows you to move your VSAM data into a relational database with
full SQL support (ANSI, FIPS, etc.) while providing your applications
a VSAM interface to that data.  I believe that you do not even have
to relink your applications (run-time trapping of calls).  Please
