Um, it is possible to set up a Telebit modem so it only gives PEP tones, and doesn't offer V.32, or V.22bis, or anything else, so only other Telebits can connect. However, it's also possible to tell it to autobaud; I have mine set up to go V.32->V.22bis->Bell 212A->Bell 103->PEP, since there aren't a lot of PEP modems calling here (this is mainly a BBS machine).
