She was told by a 911 operator to "get off the phone" and her call was basically ignored. The operator's insistence that the girl hang up interfered with the girl's pleadings for assistance. The mother phoned for an ambulance a short time later, but the boy was dead by the time an ambulance arrived. The 911 operator who took the call was supposedly "disciplined" according to a Wayne County prosecutor.
