    Is there a special procedure for installing
    a DOC string file?

No special procedure, just copy the file to your other systems.  But,
assuming you dump your Emacs (you don't say what type of system you are
running on), don't copy "DOC"; the file you need is named something like
"DOC-18.55.2" where the number exactly matches your Emacs version.
