What non "voxel" 3D grids are people out there using?

We have run into rectilinear grids with uneven spacing (All cell boundaries
|| to coordinate axes), and some curvilinear grids from CFD.  I assume
that there are finite element grids with much less regular connectivity,
but I haven't run into them yet.

Anyone have any reasonably small datasets that are "interesting"?
