I am a firstimer to MINIX, and mostly Unix-ignorant. I am having a tough time deciphering how to install the MINIX stuff onto a hard disk on my Mac. I don't want to use a RAM disk unless I must, having scads of disk space to burn. The instructions are not all that clear to me, and I can't seem to make them work without the boot process still prompting me for the 01.USR disk. Any help of any kind would be greatly appreciated, even pointers into TFM that I can R.... :) I had the same problem... I tried to edit the /etc/rc file (using ed of all things!!), but could not get the file to be sync'ed to disk (it wrote it back to the ram disk, not to the hard disk)... Here's what I did.. I unchecked the ram disk from the configuration dialog, and restarted minix.... it complained when I tried to mount the /usr disketted, but continued merrily. I then mounted *my* /usr partition giviing me the root partition *not* in ram and *my* /usr mounted.. i was then able to edit /etc/rc to mount my /usr instead of the floppy... -Paul -- Paul Nakada | Oracle Corporation | pnakada@oracle.com
