Keywords: science, NCSA Message-ID: <1990Nov7.153624.14939@ux1.cso.uiuc.edu> Date: 7 Nov 90 15:36:24 GMT Sender: news@ux1.cso.uiuc.edu (News) Organization: University of Illinois at Urbana Lines: 35 (I don't think this got out the first time. If this is a repeat to you, a thousand pardons.) Hi all, I have started trying to port the NCSA HDF library routines to the Amiga. For those of you who don't know (and who care) HDF is a file format for storing scientific data sets and images. The purpose of the format is to allow easy exchange of scientific data in a consistent format. The data is then portable across different machine types (as I understand it). It is currently available for for various machines, including Cray, Silicon Graphics, Alliant, Sun, VAX, Macintosh, and IBM PC. The code is pretty much generic C and I haven't had to change much of it. There are a few bugs (well, one that I know of) that have shown up that I have not been able to resolve. This is probably due to my meager knowledge of C in general and the SAS compiler in particular. If you are interested in this, please reply to gerber@rigel.astro.uiuc.edu. I will gladly make the source available and just as eagerly accept any help. (The source is available from NCSA anyway, but not with the few (but time consuming) changes I had to make to get it to compile with SAS C 5.10 :-) Also, I have volunteered to look into the possibility of setting up a science mailing list for the Amiga. But I really don't know what is involved. If anyone has participated in or run such a mailing list, let me know.
