'Cause I have an opportunity to get a pair of 6.1 ROMs from a 2091 to replace the 4.whatever ROMs in my 590. Secondly, a question for all you informed hardware types out there. For reasons which I won't bother to go into now, I may have to deal with the addition to my system of a 1 gigabyte WORM drive. (poor me...) I would like some basic information on it so I can prepare for it. For example, how big is something like this likely to be? (I don't know the brand name or anything yet, just that it's a 1 gig SCSI WORM removable media drive) How much is the media likely to cost? (I heard $20/disk but that sounds ridiculously low) How is delete implemented? (I know you don't get the space back but surely there's some way to make files show up no longer. The only ways I can think of that would work all would seem to require implementation at the DOS level rather than at the drive, though) And of course, barring any SCSI implementation differences, will this work all right with my A-590? I do know that without WB2.0 I'll need to either get a lot more memory than my 3 (soon to be 4) megs or not mount the whole disk at once, but other than holding a bitmap that big in memory, is there any general problems with WORM drives and AmigaDOS? It's just that I've never heard of a specific case of that combination being tried. Also, how much is this drive worth? Like the above questions, I'm open to guesses and speculation if marked as such since I know I haven't given a lot of info to go on. Also note that the mail stoppage mentioned in my .sig should be ended within 24 more hours so if you wait a bit you won't need to use the special trick address. . <<<>>> -- ** NOTE: My mail feed is currently down; one POSSIBLE address which MIGHT ** ** work is bscott%isis.cs.du.edu@mnemosyne.cs.du.edu, but no guarantees... ** |FIDO point address 1:104/421.2, bscott@isis.cs.du.edu, or BBS (303)424-9831| |"Sometimes you just gotta look the potato of injustice right in the eye..."|
