It is more in line with an "interpreter" which allows you to "see" graphics and on the Rbow monitor. It would be more productive to find someone with an original copy and ask them to sell it to you for a few pennies. (Which is about all it's worth.) For what DEC would charge you, a PC compatible could probably be bought with enough left over to buy a real graphics program. If you do find someone with a copy, do not, I repeat do not pay them more than the cost of a floppy and mailing for it. ...mark - --- msged 1.99L MSC * Origin: Island Logistics (617) 631-3304 (1:101/111) ------------------------------ Date: 10-31-90 (11:05) To: ALL Subject: MEMORY BOARD From: RICHARD SCHOLTZ NEED TO BUY A RAINBOW 100 MEM EXPANSION BOARD AS MINE AONLY HAS 312K AND CHIPS ARE SOLDERED IN---ANY BODY HAVE ONE TO SELL OR KNOW A SOURCE FOR A NEW ONE PLEASE CALL 464-4140 (VOICE) OR LEAVE A MESSAGE. - --- Opus-CBCS 1.12 * Origin: Glacier Peak Rainbow, Bellevue, WA - 206/644-8431 (1:343/3.0) ------------------------------ Date: 11-01-90 (22:24) To: FRANK MALLORY Subject: SEDT ETC. From: HOWARD HALL Hello, Frank! Everything is working pretty well (except me - I'm still looking). Your question startled me into a bit of deeper reflection than usual, and I think I uncovered a gimmick that cures a slight problem I have been having - - Actually, I had not needed the full capacity for a long file: the largest single file I had used prior to this was just under 400K. After the question, I copied my longest file head-to-tail in 4 iterations, came up with 1.6M for a 'new' single file. I have 917,504 bytes in memory, have 773,488 available. Using SEDT 4.0 (273) with the -s switch, I 'read' the file in, modified it, and then 'wrote' it to another file. This takes a rather long time, but it works. "SEDT FILE.NAM -s2" did the trick for me (I tried using an 'output' file name in the above string, but that didn't work). The number after the '-s' is used to "set the maximum amout of buffer space to megabytes." I used 2 megabytes to test the system, don't know what would happen if I tried 2.4 megabytes, or some other fraction of a megabyte. The problem I had expereinced was involved with the use of four windows at the same time. The aggregate TOTAL was too much! NEW SUBJECT: my LQP02 Printer quit on me. I still have power to the input, but get a wrong reaction when I resort to turning on the machine. I expect the print head to go to the left margin, I should get the flashing lights, then a steady green 'power on' light. Instead, the print head goes into the stops on the RIGHT side, I get a low hum, and NO green power light. Any thoughts? And do you have a recommendation for a repair shop? (I'm not completely dead in the water - matter of fact, I'm getting good service out of my LA100, though not the letter quality that the daisy wheel gives me! It's good to be back in touch, I hope to check in on POTOGOLD on a more regular basis in the future. One hitch though - we are headed out of town on the 3rd of November, return on the 9th.
