I don't have a color monitor so that I have never had a need to use it. I came with my system. If you would like I can upload this to Waystar and you can request Kevin Porter to post it for you. Memory beyond 1024 k on an > expansion board is referred to by Windows/286 as 'expanded memory'. When In actuality all memory above 1024K in the IBM world defaults to "extended". A special driver is required to convert this memory to "expanded". Normally, memory mapped between 640-1024 is reserved for the relocation of BIOS's that reside in that area which is referred to as "Shadow RAM". Special programs are available for the IBM to make use of the extra memory in this region not used by BIOS's. To the best of my knowledge there are no such products for the RB with the exception of any that may be available for the Rainbow specific "port" of Windows. Hope this clearifies matters a bit. Correct. But since no one has said they HAVE, you can pretty much bet that no one HAS, at least not on this conference. I know PC and Rainbow hardware in general, and can only tell you that the likelihood of what you want the SS board to do is very low. Certainly getting software that does it on a PC to work on the SS board has a probability of zero. The memory architecture of the PC vs. the Rainbow is just too different. I'm sorry that this isn't the response you want, but don't you think it's better than silence? re: what other documentation calls "extended" and "expanded" memory The IBM AT Set-up program also makes the grievous error of calling memory above 1024 "expanded" memory. All this shows is that large companies can make mistakes. What George Theall & I've told you about this reflects the industry-standard use of these terms. And, "arguing about words" is necessary when interpretation varies and one is trying to get a handle on what the other guy's talking about! - --- Opus-CBCS 1.14 * Origin: Silver Bullet - Silver Spring, Md - 301-622-2247 (1:109/417.0) ------------------------------ Date: 11-04-90 (10:23) To: DAVID DEITCH Subject: CONTACT VINCE PERRIELLO From: GORDON GREEN On , David Deitch (1:133/411@fidonet) wrote to gordon green: DD> You won't believe this, but back on 31/Oct/90 (was a Wed BTW) at DD> about 11:27, gordon green said this to David Deitch: > Gee, he is listed in my copy and has been every week.
