This calculator will perform all of the functions your son will need for high school level classes and the HP solve function will solve for x in any equation. It is also an algebraic mode machine so it will be easy for him to learn to use. I have purchased many HP 27S calculators as gifts for my high school level relatives and they were all very happy with them. It is also prestigious to own the quality of HP. These calculators list for something around $79. but I am sure you can find them for less at discount educational retailers. I would buy HP calculators even if I didn't work for the company because they are the best.
