WD EtherCard+ comes with a default configuration using IRQ=3; thus conflicting with COM2. On a 386SX, your only other possible IRQ is 2. CAUTION: If you are using a EGA/VGA card, IRQ2 may conflict with that. I usually use IRQ3 and disable COM2; or IRQ5 and disable LPT2. IRQ4 is used by COM1 and IRQ7 is used by LPT1. IRQ6 is used by the floppy controller (I believe), which maybe part of the hard drive controller. Before calling Western Digital, you may wish to think about which port you are willing to sacrifice. If I can be of further assistance, please don't hesitate to send me mail. __________ ___ / \ / / /_/ / /\/ _/ / / / __/. /__ / / / / / / / / "Happy Computing ..." / / Internet: Johnny.J.Chin@andrew.cmu.edu / ------- / 4730 Centre Ave. #412 BITnet: jc58@andrew \__________/ Pittsburgh, PA 15213 UUCP: ...!uunet!andrew.cmu.edu!jc58 Computer Dr. Carnegie Mellon University "If you don't like having backups ... try driving without your spare tire." ______________________________________________________________________________ Disclaimer: The views expressed herein are STRICTLY my own, and not CMU's.
