The company that I worked for this summer had a piece of software called 530. With this, you could connect the machines by either serial or parallel ports and using the software, tranfer files, directories or backup an entire HD. I thought that it was very good, as you could control everything from just one machine. You can even install the 530 program remotely on the other machine. I would definatly recommend it. I managed to backup a 20Meg HD through the parallel ports in about 10-15 minutes. The company - East Coast Software - has an office here in Dublin but I don't know where else they are. I would certainly recommend trying to get your hands on a copy.
