It's seeking is slow, but it's overall transfer is quick. Once it finds, a hypercard stack, for instance, it quickly reads it. I won't argue and say it's seeking isn't fast. I've been very happy with it, no problems at all. I got mine when they first came out and it has worked as advertised. Ooops, one small problem - when trying to play audio CD's, it doesn't like some of them when it's hooked up to the mac. When I have it by itself it works perfectly. So for you "power users" out there that think you need the fastest seeking, this and that on you CD ROM drives, I invite you to think again. While seeking rate is important, once the file is found the actual transfer is what makes a big difference. I've used Apple's CD Reader on a Mac IIx system and I honestly didn't think that the speed difference in that unit compared with the NEC unit warranted the difference in price. BTW, the NEC drive is connected to my mac plus. Hope this helps someone... +----------------------+------------------------+ | Brent Burton | n138ct@tamuts.tamu.edu | | Texas A&M University | brentb@nuchat.UUCP | +----------------------+------------------------+
