I knew it was something simple.  So amazingly simple that even _I_
overlooked it. 8-)  But thanks to a couple of careful netreaders,
I solved the problem in a matter of a couple hours.

Of course, the answer is to make sure background printing is turned
off in the Chooser.  Apparently, when I installed 6.0.7, the value
was reset to "yes", and the attempts to use Command-K and Command-F
were unsuccesful.  Set to "no" they were wonderfully. :-)
