Might this be that you had run Heapfixer (or similar program) on your hard 
disk sometime in the dim, dark past?  I believe installing a new system 
always re-writes the boot blocks, so whatever twiddling you had done with 
Heapfixer before the upgrade would be erased by the upgrade process itself 
(not 6.0.7 in particular, but the installing of any version of the system).
