Sounds like my >RS6000 has a little flatulance! Here are two solutions that I have found to work: (1) When starting up X, use "xinit -c 0". Info will explain what the "-c" option does. I have a ksh alias called "x" that executes the mentioned command. (2) If you didn't do (1) above, then try "chsound -o -k > /dev/hft/0". There should be other solutions as well.
