DDE? Message-ID: <502@philpav.tds.philips.se> Date: 8 Nov 90 09:11:11 GMT Organization: Philips TDS, Stockholm, Sweden Lines: 38 I'm working for a simple tool to keep track on official documents in a LAN-environment. I use the macro/basic language in word for windows to create user interfaces, but I got a little stocked in communication with external programs. As I understood, the way to communicate with other programs is to use the directive shell program arg1 ..... argN give back some strings? (Of cause I can always read a file, but it seems to be too dirty/complicated). I saw also some DDE-commands (DDEExecute, DDEInitiate, DDEPoke, DDERequest, DDETerminate) but all examples in the W4W Technical reference manual show communication with Execel.... So the questions are: 1. It is possible to simply add new directives to the basic? Can they be written in C? Need for special development environment? 2. Is DDEPoke/DDERequest$ macros *the* solution for communication with other programs? How do I write programs supporting DDE (Dynamic DataExchange)? 3. Can I read MSDOS shell variables (SET name=value) from W4W-macros? Tanks for any help, Roman +-------------------------------------------+ _--~--_ | Roman M.
