The first is part of the contrib source under xgks and can be had from the X11R4 tapes or via ftp from any of the distribution machines. It does GKS level 2b (this right??) and puts up a separate window for GKS. You cannot use it as is in an integrated fashion with a larger X application unless it's OK to have a totally separate display window. It contains no drivers for other output devices and no Metafile that I noticed. The second is GKSUL which is at least a 2b implementation. It is not free, but is inexpensive at $1000 for a site license. It includes drivers for a variety of devices including X and can be handed a window ID to use, so it can be integrated with an X application. It is maintained by University of Lowell. You can contact gks@ulowell.edu or call the ULowell comp sci department. GKSUL supports both the C and Fortran bindings, includes Metafile support and has a PostScript driver. I'll let the X people talk about PEX. Douglas S. Rand Internet: Snail: MITRE, Burlington Road, Bedford, MA Disclaimer: MITRE might agree with me - then again... Amateur Radio: KC1KJ
