It seems as though I'm using a program which had some bugs in it 
initally.  They have been fixed and this bar mode thing should work 
fine after I get an updated version of the applications program which I 
am using.  It wasn't Artic's problem or mine--I'm glad to say.  Thanks 
for your help.  It got me on the right track.
