In pro audio Rane is generally considered a cheap brand. This means (for most people) a real lack of headroom. Probably not very good sound, either. I figure that digital will not be any better, expensive, hard to find in the format you want... If you are a real audiophile, look into Klark-Teknik. This is the "brand of choice" these days. Much cheaper and still hifi is Ashly, Arx, etc. Thanks for the tip. Where can a reasonably audio sophisticated but pretty busy person (me) get info like this about pro audio equipment? I've been to my local musician's shops (Chuck Levin, Washington Pro Systems, etc.) but they're just not set up to listen critically to various things; they really seem to cater to people who already know what they want. I'm currently shopping for new speakers in the ~$3k range, and my primary interests are in neutrality, efficiency, bass extension & "quickness". Imaging and other "audiophile" concerns are somewhat secondary to me. I suspect I could find what I want in pro monitors as easily as I can in audiophile stuff, but I'm having a hard time even finding a place to hear UREI's, Fostex's, etc. etc. Any suggestions?
