I don't remember seeing anyone mention that some verisons of the 
68HC11 have an 8 channel 'plexed 8 bit A/D converter on chip.  
Pretty fast too, the figure 32 usecs comes to mind, not sure 
if that is per-channel or for a series of four conversions or if 
it is the correct number. Might be a good cadidate for the 
person with the astronomy project.
