There are two problems. First, when a person logs out of the system, the modem does not hang up for about 30-60 seconds. Sometimes the RD and SD lights flicker until the modem hangs up. Second, mail will not go out. I have tried Uutry to a couple of systems, and after sending a login name, I get garbage while the password: prompt is expected. It breaks at the same place every time on every system I have tried calling (A hayes 2400 smartmodem, a TB2500, and an unknown 2400 baud modem). Yet I can use cu to call and login with no problem. I'm afraid I don't understand. If anyone is using one of the new USR modems (w/ v.42/v.42bis) w/ ISC's unix, or any Sys V r3.2 unix, please let me know how you have the modem configured and how you have /usr/lib/uucp/Dialers and /etc/gettydefs set up. Thanks for any help you can give! uucp wet!john internet john@sutro.sfsu.edu ps: I previously was using a hayes smartmodem 2400 w/ no problems.
