brother had a 2400), and it had a bad habit of overheating and answering 
without a carrier (not a good modem for a BBS with long distance network 
contacts!). I'm told that the problem was addressed years ago, perhaps by 
putting the power supply outside the case.

   Otherwise, I was happy with the Prometheus product... but that one flaw was 
major enough to force me to return the modem. I replaced it with a GVC product 
that had less drastic, though equally significant problems (it didn't always 
obey DTR correctly, and its carrier modulation wasn't as good as some other 
designs'). I've seen newer GVC modems and they've improved noticeably.
