Sure , this is a more extensive change but it is a provent technology. While machine A is sending with a "Zmodem" type in one direction, machine B can ALSO be sending a "Zmodem" type in the other direction. Granted , some things must be done in case of error's that will stumble the protocol for a packet or two every now and then , but with high speed ECC modems like the telebits you still get an overall win on throughput. With some > 9600 baud modems the connection is not 9600 bi-directional but a 9600/2400 combination the flip flops, but you could detect that and switch to an older method or take the 2400 link anyway. I am using Diga! (an Amiga terminal program) as a mental starting base here (and some experiments Ive done with folks here playing with this type of thing for a custom BBS ). They have a 2 way file transfer option that overlays a CHAT channel on top of THAT and the efficiency is almost a 160% speed savings. (A one way ZMODEM is faster for one file, but the two way tome is faster than two zmodems) Look into it. ========[ Xanadu Enterprises Inc.
