We had this type of problem, but it stems from our setting the variable MSWNET
to our default network drive "J".  Once the drive has been properly mounted,
MS Word works fine.

We currently are using PC-NFS 3.01 in connection with MS Windows 3.0 on
several Zenith 386-SX's.  It appears to be working fine with a slight problem
with how Windows recognizes the virtual drives.  Sharing drives and printers
is no problem.  As for the virtual drive problem, we fixed that by adding a
small batch file to "SUBST" all of the drives that we do not use to the 
hard drive "C".  Then, no matter what drive we pick, it is defined.  Other
than that we have had no real problems.  

One caution: It is impossible to run "telnet" in a small window. it will crash
windows.  However, it is perfectly fine to run it full screen from windows.
