    I need to know where to find the registered ethernet types
    which can occur in the ethernet packet type field. The standard
    '/usr/include/..." type files have what the local unix machine
    is capable of understanding but leave no clue as to what else
    one may expect when one is monitoring raw packets from the net.

This information can be found in RFC 1060 (Assigned Numbers).  This
RFC (and others) is available for anonymous FTP from the NIC (at
nic.ddn.mil).
