You can get the code to playback SoundSmith sequences from Huibert Aalbers (the author of SoundSmith). The G.A.T.E. demo is launched from the BASIC prompt, and it plays a SS tune while it is running, so it IS possible. Maybe Parik can give you some hints. DeluxePaint II saves its graphics in a format called Apple Preferred Format (APF). It uses compression to shrink the size of the file, so you would need the source code for the compression algorithm.
