Although the Start.GS.OS on 5.0.3 was of a newer date than on 5.0.2, they were still exactly the same size, so I assumed they weren't too different from each other. I left the system 5.0.3 Start.GS.OS on the drive, and I replaced P8 v 1.9 with P8 v1.8 and reinstalled SCSI.PART, and so far it seems to be working okay. I've got all my partitions back under prodos 8. Hopefully, the author of SCSI.PART will modify it soon so that it works with P8 v 1.9. BTW - what are the changes to P8 besides the addition of the new Mini-Finder quit code? Anything I should be real concerned with like an important bug fix? I prefer to have the latest versions of software installed, but right now SCSI.PART is more valuable to me than a newer version of Prodos 8.
