I'm not too sure about the internal spacing in the 400, it might be too cramped in there but since the 400 is essentially the same computer chip compatibility shouldn't be a question. Oh by the way you do need a new control chip for the board. That shouldn't be too hard to find. Any surplus eelectronics store should have some junked Atari 800s that they can cannabalize.
