Does it work ? (HP) Message-ID: <1109@aut.autelca.ascom.ch> Date: 12 Nov 90 08:38:49 GMT Followup-To: comp.protocols.tcp-ip Distribution: comp Organization: Ascom Autelca AG, CH-3073 Guemligen Switzerland Lines: 72 Question to somebody with experience: Will that work? I'd like to connect two UNIX computers (HP9000/835 and HP9000/375, both with HP-UX 7.0) over a serial link. HP distributes PPP on a tape (X.25 software, fileset NETINET i think) for the 800 series. About 300 series, I don't know. Anybody knows ? The way of connection: 835 HP9000/835S, name "aut" ^ | v serial line, 19200Bd <30m, probably only 9600Bd ^ | v asynchron to synchron needed for multiplexer ^ (only able to mux synchron) | <2m v multiplexer 19200Bd -> AS/400 to 5394 (sync) ^ 19200Bd -> PPP | 9600Bd -> 6150 connection v 64kB/s modem \ ^ | > ~3km, digital link v 64kB/s modem / ^ | v multiplexer 19200Bd -> 5394 to AS/400 (sync) ^ 19200Bd -> PPP | 9600Bd -> 6150 connection v synchron to asynchron needed for multiplexer ^ (only able to mux synchron) | v serial line, 19200Bd <4m, probably only 9600Bd ^ | v 375 HP9000/375, name "oscad1" I want to start the connection at boot time. Programms running over this link: r-programms, telnet, ftp... What's happen if one machine goes down? Is this connection transparent to users? (if routing is correct) Is this connection usefull? (performance etc.) Is NFS possible? ;-) And the most important question: Does it work ? What would I need, to connect the two computers over a synchron line? Thanks for any responses.
