Question to somebody with experience: Will that work?

I'd like to connect two UNIX computers (HP9000/835 and HP9000/375, both
with HP-UX 7.0) over a serial link.

HP distributes PPP on a tape (X.25 software, fileset NETINET i think)
for the 800 series. About 300 series, I don't know. Anybody knows ?

The way of connection:

		835 			HP9000/835S, name "aut"

I want to start the connection at boot time.
Programms running over this link: r-programms, telnet, ftp...

What's happen if one machine goes down?
Is this connection transparent to users? (if routing is correct)
Is this connection usefull? (performance etc.)
Is NFS possible?  ;-)  

And the most important question: 
Does it work ?

What would I need, to connect the two computers over a synchron line?
