Message-ID: <1990Nov12.103352.7375@umiami.ir.miami.edu> Date: 12 Nov 90 14:33:52 GMT Organization: Univ. of Miami - Info Resources Lines: 28 I've never heard of this problem before, so I hope someone else has... Whenever they sell Mac IIci's here, they add in an extra meg along with the 4 MB that is comes with. They use 256K SIMMs to get that extra meg. Now the problem seems to be that whenever something tries to use that extra meg, the Mac crashes with a bus error (ID=01, y'know, the one yer never supposed to see :) ). Now is there a certain speed that the 256K SIMMs need to be? They've been using 80ns so far, and they do have a IIci with this configuration up and running now, so they (and I) know it works. Could it just be bad SIMMs? They do pass the boot-up test. Oh one more thing...I've heard that if the Mac IIci doesn't recognize the extra meg, but it knows it has more than 4MB, it'll try and re-use the first meg of memory again. Is this true or am I just hearing things? Thanks oodles. -- Jason Gross Comp Sci Ugrad University of Miami Class of '91 (?) =========================================================================== Hey, wanna save the world? | Got sumtin' to say? gross@umiami.bitnet Nuke a Godless, Communist, | Pick and choose! gross@umiami.ir.miami.edu gay whale for Christ. | gross@miavax.ir.miami.edu - Anonymous | jgross@umbio.med.miami.edu =========================================================================== The University of Miami has a lovely fountain.
