I am having the same problem with my system (Mac SE, 20MB internal HD, FDHD upgrade, 2.5 MB RAM, External 20 MB HD, External 30 MB HD, approx. 2-3 MB free on internal HD) even with no inits & cdevs on - but I'm able to use speed disk on the two external drives (even with them all on - nice job guys!).
