Has anyone written a  program to access DATs or  8mm Exabyte drives  as random
access devices (i.e. like a slow  harddisk)? I know  it is possible, but it is
also too hardware-involved for me.

How expensive are WORMs these  days? Are  they more  dust-resistant than  NeXT
ODs? (I am almost in a desert as far  as floating  particles in the office are
concerned.) Can they now read CD-ROMs, too?
