In our experimentations in seems that the rdump command logins under root on the IRIS to hit the tape. Now there must be something 'non-standard' about this logging procedure and the machines just can't negotiate this login. However if you remove the root password from the IRIS machine (make it null), the rdump works. I know, I know, this is not a viable option: having an open root account. Man, i shake just at the thought of having any open account. RDUMP does seem to work just fine when a 6000 is hitting another 6000, at least to the floppy. (We don't have a tape drive to test yet).
