I was wondering if this is normal? When the machines were 3/80s they came up a lot quicker (within 5 minutes). Also, after the new machines come up the take a VERY long time to get from the login/password prompt to the shell prompt. Sometimes even the shell responds slowly, slower then the 3/80. We are running X on all the machines, the SLC has 12 meg of RAM, the 1+'s have 8 meg, and the server (Sparc 1) has 12 meg. And by slowly I mean 2-3 minutes for an ls to respond in a directory that has about 30 files in it, and for the the first shell prompt to come up it takes about 4 minutes. Is there something that I am missing? Gregg Jensen
