Our largest file is bigger than a gigabyte, and growing. The whole system occupies 6 or 7 gigabytes of 3380 disk. Several hundred users access the database daily; response time for a typical query is slightly under a second. The system uses a PL/I host interface to the Model 204 database manager. The question came up whether systems of this size have been ported to run under Unix successfully. For us, "success" would primarily be measured in terms of response time -- keeping it as low as it is now. Any pointers to such systems? What database manager was used? (I don't know if this has been discussed before in this group.) -- Bitnet: pmrcjdb@uchimvs1 Internet: cjdb@midway.uchicago.edu
